In her study of Alexander’s primary Macedonian mint, Troxell noted that the staters with control symbols kantharos, trident, and thunderbolt were struck at more than one mint, and over a significant period. Only a small portion of these are attributable to the primary mint. Based on hoard data, Troxell dates those issues from other mints to just prior to Alexander’s death and a few years following.
